EICO 425 scope

Hi all,

I just bought a EICO 425 oscilloscope in KIT.
The scope, from 1960, still in it's box, has never been assembled yet.

I don't have the construction manual, unfortunately.
But i found the instruction manual and the schematic on the web. So i should be able to assemble it with the schematic, but i would need to know which tube socket goes with which tube ?

Does someone has a tube location diagram for this scope ?

Now what should i do with all the capacitors ?
What about old capacitors that has never been use, are they still good ? In the kit, they look like new ones.
Should i recap everything ?

Thanks

Hi

Might consider leaving the scope in kit form unless you just want to build something. In kit form an item is often worth much more than assembled.

The non-electrolytic caps in the kit are probably OK. However, you might want to replace the electrolytic caps with newly-manufactured ones; the original caps contain a caustic chemical that over time (50+ years!)just sitting around can break down the cap. They may be OK, but new ones are cheap enough that it isn't worth the potential aggravation to use the original ones.

Thanks CV, Ok i will replace électrolytics, and may be also paper caps above .5uF

You are right Norm, but i already started the consruction of the scope...for my own pleasure.

But that would be quite easier..with the contruction manual.

This is what happened to someone else that built an EICO VTVM without using the construction manual.. :o)

:HORRAY, Austin here: There is a construction manual on the 'net!! Type in EICO 425 oscilliscope.Use the slider bar & work down a ways. It is on E-BAY & sells for about $17.00. The caps. should be ok because on the picture is shown the newer style epoxy type. They stood up very well!

In case someone ever search on google for the same thing i was looking, here is a link to 3 pdf files about the oscilloscope EICO 425.

They consist of the original assembly manual for the 425, complete with the pencil check-marks made by some owner, a perfect redrawn schematic, and a copy of the original user manual.
