Regrettably this is the same problem presented by a defective band switch mentioned earlier. You could wind up going crazy looking for the problem in the band switch when it is in a tube socket or visa versa.

:: One problem to look for in Philcos is corrosion in the Loctal tube sockets. Philco had a great fondness for Loctals which are highly susceptible to corrosion in the sockets.
