I use CRC QD electronic cleaner. You can get at a NAPA automotive store or at Walmart.

I have a spray can of Nutrol. Got it from a TV repair guy back in the stone ages. It is still good, use a tiny amount. I would not use WD40. which is a mix of thinner and oil.

Just be careful that the volume control is not one of those with the carbon paper strip inside. One shot of spray and I eliminated the static along with the desired output! Mark from Kalamazoo
