RCA WV-98C Senior Volt Ohmyst , meter

Hello all,

The meter movement acts like a capacitor slowly discharging through the meter, but only on the resistance scale, all other scales work fine.

It will eventually find the correct seting if I let it work itself back to the setting, if I dont touch any zeroing corrections controls.

When I get it all settled down and stabilized I can switch between 0 ohms (leads connected) and infinity (leads not connected)and it will return correctly.... quickly. But If I go to any othe scale an then back to resistance, it takes ten minutes for it to stabilize back to the correct setting without touching the zeroing controls
I have replaced both tubes with NOS. A 6AL5 and
a 12AU7A, I did the burn in thing several times.
Several New Batterys and checked for cotinuity several times.
If I didn't like the meter so much when it was working I would have a lot more parts in my scrap box.

Appreciate all help and sugestions in advance

Thank you .... Antoni

Hi Antoni, did your meter work at one time? I know if you check a cap with a modern meter on ohms it travels most of the time down then up and then you reverse the leads and it does the same thing. But if you get an open line the cap is bad. You should pick up a cap tester, you can get them cheap on ebay. I paid 15 dollars for one and it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. They tell you the actual value of the cap unless it is still in place in the chassis. You have to cut one side to get an accurate reading. Sounds to me like your meter is working properly. Good Luck, George T
