:Hello All,
: I have the service data for this set, but I don't have the actual radio here. Does this radio take the standard 3 prong speaker plug? The schematic seems to indicate that it does, but maybe someone knows or has a picture of it.

:The 56 Mercury 6BM/6BMS does not use the Ford 3-pin speaker plug. If you look carefully at the diagram on the schematic (AR-6), you will notice that there are 4-pin openings on the socket. The socket is set up for use with just a front (single) speaker, or with front and rear (two) speakers. A single front speaker has a 2-pin plug that fits horizontally in the top 2 socket holes (so marked on the radio chassis). If a rear speaker is also used, the 2-pin plug for it fits vertically (also marked on radio chassis)and has one longer pin. The longer pin goes in the center hole of the socket. There is a set of contacts in the center hole that are opened with the longer pin and allow use of the built-in speaker fader in the radio. Easier seen than described!

: I have the service data and have studied it. To me it looks like nothing connects to the middle pin except the fader control, which is inside the radio. Where would I find the correct speaker plug? I'm going to need one.

:It should be clear how the socket works when you have the radio in hand. Where to get the speaker plugs? Good question! From a junked 56 Mercury? You may have to fabricate the plugs with pins from old junk connectors. I made a speaker cable and 3 pin plug for a 37 Olds radio just last week. I used the pins and phenolic from a junk vibrator base. A Dremel tool with cut-off wheels comes in real handy for such work.
