CORONADO - Gamble Skogmo Manufacturer
7/4/2013 3:20:51 PMRAYMOND
I finally found a question that seems to have people stumped! Who is the manufacturer of the Coronado Model 94RA33-43-8130. I have checked out the Gamble-Skogmo/Coronado/Coronado Mfg. Co./Coronado Kingston Co. Gamble Co, St. Paul/ Mpls./Los Angeles. When I get on the Gamble-Skogmo site all I get is Proctor & Gamble. The reason I am trying to find out who the Mfg. is, is because I have a set at home that is an ALMOST duplicate that is like the 94RA33-43-8130. The difference is the dial scale & some slight wiring changes plus mine has minature tubes & the Coronado has octal tubes. The two cases are perfectly identical! If I could find out who made the Coronado set, then I could go to the Mfg.of mine for the circuitry & a service manual. I am checking the Radio Attic Archives now for any thing that looks like it. When I got the set when I was in high school, there was no back on it. Back 20 years ago, I did get it working a little bit, could barely pick up the one local station. Was so weak that I almost had to strain my ears (but not quite). Maybe I even had ED stumped. When I look at the back area of the COronado the IFs are the same, all the tubes are in the same location (octal to minature), the tuner part number is kinda the same-4 numbers-. There are part numbers that are very readable, yet I am not familiar with the numbering system on my set. Mine has a snazzier dial & is yellow. My cabinet is a perfect match to the Coronado 94RA33-43-8130 except the color, shape for shape, line for line, grill for grill. There is an odd-ball resistor that is burned out some where in the output section & the oscillator section has different wiring (slightly).

There should be a tag on back with code identifying manufacturer. If you don't have that RA may be a clue. Look at schematics on this site for manufacturers that could use RA. WG is Wells Gardner, BR is Belmont Radio.

: There are NO MARKINGS on the chassis or cabinet. When I look at the rear of the chassis of the CORONADO, there are 4 numbers on the back of the tuner, the SAME as mine. Look on the web under certain CORONADO sites & you can see what I mean on the tuner back. The IF cans do not show a number, probably the way they are facing. Mine does not show a number on the cans from the back becuse they are on the side. The speaker part no. is on the bottom of the bracket where it sits on the chassis! What a screw-ball place to put part no. No wonder I ask WHO made this duplicate CORONADO set?

:::What I'm looking for is the MANUFACTURER of the CORONADO in question so I can go to that company & find the circuitry for my DUPLICATE/LOOK-ALIKE set. My look-alike set is ALMOST, ALMOST, ALMOST, ALMOST identical to the CORONADO. I have looked at SAM's years ago & the folder lists SUPPLIER/MANUFACTURER as GAMBLE-SKOGMO. There is NO word on who MADE the set for GAMBLE-SKOGMO. There are a few changes, mostly the dial (not a big deal), but trere is a resistor BURNED OUT & the set plays so VERY weak you have to STRAIN your ears to hear a LOCAL station a few miles away (about 2 miles). The station is a 1000 watt station! That is NOT normal with a loudspeaker!!!! The dial cord stringing, the IF cans, the tuner & the cabinet are identical. The main difference is in the B- to chassis, oscillator wiring, & this totally BURNED out resistor in the output section. It goes from the output tube to some other place & there is also a bias resistor from cathode to ground. So why the other resistor at a 1 or 2 watt????. The CORONADO uses octal tubes & mine uses minatures. The tube functions are in the same place with either style.
