Empire radio electrolytics with faded printed values
6/23/2013 4:44:20 PMRobin in Kansas
Hey, everybody!
I've got an Empire radio with three electrolytic caps (one is a single - one is a dual) that the printing is gone from. I looked it up online and found a link to a 08/05/2007 topic here in the forum. When I tried to access it it said the link was moved or gone. It read, "4 Tube Radio With Empire Logo" and had several comments. I thought it may be about the caps. The tubes are 6D6, 6C6, 38 & 12Z3 for this little curtain burner.

Has anybody got a clue as to what they need to be?

I forgot to mention that they are the two caps at the top - a single round one on the left and a rectangle double on the right.

Hi Robin, you wouldn't happen to know the model number on the radio? Thanks, George T

George T,
Like many this age the only name is on the plate on the front. It is the same logo as some seen elsewhere on the web. The only other number is the pressed-in part number on the chassis.

Hi Again Robin, did you say that your radio is a curtain burner. In the years 1933 through 1935 they used a lot of electric cords with the resistance wire ran through them and the cord would get very hot thus the frase "curtain burner" does your radio have the resistance cord? Do you know how to post a picture of it on this site? If we can see a picture of it we should be able to ID it for you. George T

George T,
Yes, it is a curtain burner with the resistance line cord. I've got the cap and resistor to replace that with. I thought I attached a link to PhotoBucket but if you didn't see it I guess I have forgotten how to do it. If you send me some instructions I'll do it again.

Hey, Norm!
I've looked all these over and noticed a few differences. My set has a switch on a coil on the back that maybe for BC/SW. Mine also has two pilot lights. I can't find a schematic for the Fada 110 A or B, though.

:Hi! Robin

I looked up the tube substitution and the 6C subs for a 77 and the 6D6 subs for a 78. When I checked these out several models came up and there are schematics in Ryders for them.
Copy and paste:

:Maybe one of these schematics will work.

:6C was a typo. I meant 6C6.
