Sears Silvertone

I have this Sears Silvertone portable and it is missing a tube. The other tubes are 1A7, 1N5G, 1H5, and 1T5. What would the other tube have been? The only numbers on it are 110.411 but I don't find that number listed anyplace.

You are missing the audio output tube. A 3V4 would be my guess.

I thought the 1T5 was the audio output tube.

Yes, you are right. I don't know then.

You're missing the 50Y6GT.

Thanks Bob, but how did you find the schematic from the ch# of 110.411?

:John,
I just used google.

With Silvertone chassis numbers it sometimes works with the period in the number and sometimes it works better without it. Sometimes substituting Sears for Silvertone helps also.

Thanks, Bob. I wish to add that 50Y6 would be the rectifier. So would that radio work well with a silicon diode substituted for the 50 volt tube?

That tube also supplies B+ voltage. I would find the silicon diode conversion to be too much work considering that the 50Y6GT sells for $3-$5. AES shows 80 in stock @ $2.90.

John,

I believe that Sears chassis had the tube lineup of 1A7GT, 1N5GT, 1H5GT, 1A5GT & 50Y6GT. I believe the 1T5GT is/was an acceptable substitute for the 1A5GT output tube.

:Also be VERY, VERY careful when you substitute a silicon diode for a tube in these 1.5 v battery sets!!!! The filiment for the 50Y5 is also sometimes in series with the rest of the filaments but shunted by a resistor. The 50v circuit sometimes changes the voltage to the other tubes & BELIEVE ME THEY WILL BLOW if the voltage is not RIGHT! Sometimes they are hard to find. So be very careful when you start changing the filiment circuit!

: Do what I did - I went down the WHOLE list of Silvertones until I found my set, I copied the chassis layout down on a sheet of paper & took it to the coffee shop. Was there for a very long time but it was worth it (in my books). I love finding info. on the internet for my old sets. NOW---- Sometimes chassis nos. are listed for sets but mostly model nos. There is another web site that shows a RIDERS index, but right at this minute I couldn't tell you anything. It is there, I did see it! It even shows the adresses of some manufactures. Find this web site & see if there is a chassis no. listed for you. The RIDERS index DOES SHOW A LOT!!

Or you can go to Radiomuseum.org and enter the chassis number. If it was referenced in the service info, the model should come up.
