Train transformer power radio.

Last weekend pick up at yard sale Crosley Model 51 and a Lionel Multivolt Transformer Type T. Was told that the person grandfather use the transformer to got the 6 volts need to power the radio, also used two 45 volts batteries. Is this possable?

Yes, he would be using 6 volts AC for the heater string. For the B+ he needs DC, so he used the batteries in series for 90 VDC.

You want to be careful not to switch voltage up too high by accident and blow a heater on one of your tubes.
I'd be planning to build a power supply specifically for the radio, and sell the train transformer to a train collector.
I recently sold a toy train transformer at the radio club swap meet, but the guy bought it to power a toy crane.
