Need help dermining what type of audio xformer need for RCA R5

My wife found me an RCA Radiolette in a box the other day and after replacing all resistors and some capacitors, I was able to get sound of a sort. There was no speaker or audio xformer. I replaced the speaker field with a 10 watt 2K resistor and tried several xformers/speakers I had laying around until I got reasonable sound. I know it isn't the right xformer, mostly because the radio keeps tripping my GFI outlet, and because I can't properly control the volume. I know I need a xformer with a 300 ohm primary, and I would like to use a very nice 7" 4 ohm pm speaker that I have. I can troubleshoot and replace parts pretty well, but I do not know how to match xformers to speakers etc. I would replace the speaker with original parts if I could get them, but that being unlikely, is there an audio transformer that would let me use the 7" speaker I have? Where do I get such a xformer, and the specific part number and vendor would be appreciated. Is there a better way to repair this?

:Thanks Warren, I really appreciate the info. I see this also talks to the technical side of matching up. My answer plus some education, hmmm, sort of a "Teach a man to fish" site.
