Hickok 600A Line Adjust
5/29/2013 10:18:47 AMRobin in Kansas
I think I need to replace my line adjust. I have to nearly turn it all the way up to get the needle to center on the meter anymore. They don't make the 25-watt, 200 ohm Ohmite #2878-3SC Model D anymore.

The closest I've found is the 250 ohm version. Will the extra 50 ohms make that much difference?

Is there a way to "rejuvenate" the old one?

I haven't seen a schematic, but I think you are barking up the wrong tree, here. If the pot works smoothly, and doesn't have any dead spots, I would start looking a whatever makes DC for the meter out of the AC line you are adjusting with the pot.

P. S. If you have the schematic, post it.

Steven Johnson has the schematic on his website. I don't feel right putting it up here since it's not mine.

The line adjust rheostat pot is wire wound. Most times a good cleaning and some adjustment it will work fine again. The use of 250 ohm new pot will work fine in this application. It’s being used as a rheostat.

Just the usual contact cleaner and Q-Tip?

Sir Robin. . . .

(Seen Littlejohn in the forest lately? )

I made up one for referencing sometimes back . . . . so thereby . . . we would not then particularly be trouncing upon the Right
Honorable and Esteemed Steve Johnson's (Esq.) toes, as mine is unitized into one single sheet and has the component parts also
placed at the bottom of it.

Look at the actual design of the 600 and you will see that all signal processing is being handled as an AC signal . . . . and then . . .
and thats HEAVY on the AND THEN. . . . . .

We see that the AC is then being rectified and FILTERED by C3 which is a 50 ufd VDC electrolytic.

That makes the DC level which permits your meter to read.

Replace that cap and see "who hoppens" . . . . . UNLESS you have already done that and are having a good unit in circuit now.

Sir Edd,

LittleJohn, who dwarfs my 6'-4", says good morrow, my lord and good health to you!

I have not yet replaced yon cap (should it be with feather?) but one is to be produced by the USPS magician soon!

As always, I am humbled by your infinite wisdom, Good Sir!

Until we meet again - fair thee well, my goodman!
