I have this old radio I want to restore, however, the shaft that the dial pointer string is attached is missing. Anyone know where I might be able to get one.
Thanks

OK---Try and narrow down the odds for us....Make and model might be somewhat helpful..Please assume that there are no mind readers when posing a question on this forum.

Thank you for your response. The chassis doesn't have a model number on it. However, I was able to get some schematics for a General Television table top radio. The models that come closest to the layout are: 19,26,34,47,49,51,57,88 and 91. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Pat

Most shafts are 1/4" dia. Hardware stores have this material. You may need to make a shaft for your radio?

Dial string normally loops around the shaft a couple times. Not usually attached.

Yes, you can get brass or steel rod stock at most hardware or big-box home-improvement stores. You will need to cut it to length and then shape it a bit (flat the knob end, cut grooves for c-clip retainers) so some hand tools like files will be needed (or a Dremel tool). For this reason I prefer to use brass stock- it is easier to work with than steel.

Need a 1/4" bushing? I cut the threaded end from a headphone jack and used the nut and lock washer to hold it in place in the chassis of my Airline 62-84. The tuning shaft was worn a bit, but three turns of Scotch tape made it a snug fit.
