AF5TMR Dead Oscillator
5/17/2013 9:56:33 AMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
My SAMs AR-28 has gone into "The Twilight Zone". I'm trying to troubleshoot this radio and I'm getting nowhere because the components are all jammed and crammed into a tiny area. I have searched and cannot find my AR-28 anywhere. Which one is the oscillator transistor? It fails the "hold another radio near it and tune test". It can only receive AM in a TRF way somehow. When the oscillator trimmer is tuned one way it receives one set of stations. When it's tuned a different way, it receives another set of stations and ignores the first set of stations. It appears to have a dead oscillator. FM is completely dead. It will pick up a tone on 10.7 MHz from my signal generator on FM. Similar results on the AM band with it's frequency. So I think the fixed frequency part of both tuners is working.

Please help if you can.

Thanks,

Dave

The AM oscillator coil is the can with the red top slug.
The transistor in question would have connections there.
