Gentlemen:

As you know I sometimes restore radios for people. I got a call from a gentleman who is in a nursing home, suffering from an ailment (he may not want me to chat about it online). He is looking for an RCA tombstone radio like a model 5T or other , etc that he can enjoy.

I have not chatted with him yet, but I would like to give him a gift.I dont know him and I am not related to him in any way, he just called me out of the blue.

If anyone has an RCA radio like this that needs restoring and that they are willing to donate , Id like to restore it for him and send it to him for free.

He doesn't know anything about this. What do you guys think?

Lou

If he is in a true nursing home room, there is usually limited space for something like this radio that needs a table and decent antenna. Usually there are 2 people per room, with minimal table/furniture. I would be hesitate to give him this type radio...They are inherently dangerous in an environment like this. Residents with dementia could wander into the room and may reach in the back get a shock or topple the radio. He would be better off with the modern knock off the old cathedral radios made by Crosley, GE, etc. They have modern safety codes and not heavy and get FM also. I've had a lot of time spent in these places with family members and speak from experience.

Well I may risk this . I am not sure yet.

Anyone with an RCA T7, T8, T9 to donate?
He is a sick and elderly man and I want to make him a nice gift.

Thanks
Lou

I guess I'll chime in again.....Does the man have any caregivers or relatives that you can contact to get approval of this? My father would talk to people on his phone in the home, but they hadn't a clue that he had some dementia, and was losing a sense of reality, even though they thought he sounded 'normal'.
Go visit the man, and size him up and talk to his surroundings/caregivers in the home first, before committing to any promise of a radio.
How did he get your number?

Good questions - thanks

I think you are on the right track about a visit first - maybe I can size up the situation.
