Orange Drop are good caps and sealed well. Any modern cap will be better than original types. Go by price as long as they aren't called NOS. Don't use NOS (new old stock) caps as they may be leaky without use.
Some collectors insert new capacitors in the old cardboard tubing. If you are planning this size and shape will be important.

: I have used a number of various brands and compounds of new capacitors to replace the old wax filled paper type from Aerovox (values from .001 to 1.0 uf) but was wondering what others thought were the best type and/or brand. Especiallu in vintage radios.
: Any preferences?
I have a source that has mallory orange drops of unknown vintage-- they seem to be okay, but I'm sure they are pretty old. I was under the impression that old electrolytics are problematic, but film caps are subject to becoming leaky only with use. NOS orange drops are to be avoided, then?
What about pacific rim electrolytics? I use a number of brands for the typical high voltage electrolytic, NTE and/or Nichicon. Are US made (if there are any) better quality? Are the 105C caps of higher quality apart from the temperature rating?
Electrolytics from Asia seem fine. 105C caps may be better over time than 85C but cost more. Even 85C last 30 years or more in a radio.
Almost all paper caps become leaky over time. I've had some nice looking plastic types that nearly shorted without use. Orange Drops made in the past 20 years should be ok. Just don't try using NOS caps from the 1950's. They are still being sold.
