Magnavox Console Transistor substitutes needed !
1/22/2002 9:25:07 AMLeo
Hello!

This is the detailed info on my Magnavox Console.
I need help recognizing the transistor substitutes I need to replace the burned ones.
It is a Magnavox Astro Sonic console, model No. 1P3717, serial No.
1973650, Manufactured probably in the 60-70's in Indiana, U.S.A.
The transistors I need replaced are the audio output. They are 2 PNP and 2 NPN, and this is the information I can get from the back of the transistors:
-2 of them have blue letters and the following codes:

S
III N 2 A G
6834
(the 2 and A are not very visible but I am 80% those are the codes)

-the other 2 have red letters and the following codes :

III P 1 A G
6834

Please any advice or any suggestion at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Leo F.

Hi,
You may have to resort to removing your old transistors and measuring the open circuit voltage for each one. Once you have those in hand, you can select a matched pair replacement from NTE.

You do not state what case style the output transistors are, but chances are a replacement pair would be of a different case style.

If your base to emitter voltage is less than 5 volts, one matched pair that would possibly work would be NTE 153MP (NTE 152 and NTE 153). I would consider these a starting point. If you go to their website, you can download their latest part finder, as well as locate a vendor close to you. www.nte.com. Otherwise, if you have an old Sylvania cross reference, The NTE numbers are the identical, the prefix was merely changed. NTE recently acquired the part lines completely.

What chassis is this, R220 or R231? Let me know as I may be able to help.
