reliability of 300 ohm twin lead
4/6/2013 5:13:48 PMsteve sherman
I bought a 100 ft of 300 Ohm twin lead from Radio Shack for only $18.95 . I plan to build a 75-to-300 Ohm transformer to connect my ~75 Ohm resonant half-wave horizontal dipole to the 300 Ohm transmission line.
If properly strain-relieved, will the Radio Shack line be reliable? Or, could it break in this type of situation? I live in New England, with snow/ ice.

Thanks,
Steve Sherman

The Radio Shack stuff is as good as any 300 ohm standard twin lead. The other option is expensive foam filled three wire lead that is still 300 ohm. Remember ladder lead ?

Warren, thanks.
I'm not familiar with the foam-filled three wire lead.
Where do I find it?
I did see twinax, which is 10x more expensive than the Radio Shack twin lead. And, I would bet that the twinax is heavier. Also, I couldn't find any 300 Ohm twinax. Does it exist?

Thanks Again,
Steve

Have not seen of the twin lead I am telling you about. The three wire has a foil shield wrapped around the foam filled twin lead. The link has the next best stuff.

The best thing about shielded 300 ohm, is it does not pick up static and noise.
