Hi Everyone.
I have an Arvin 35R8 stereophonic with the following tubes:
(2)-18FX6A, (3)-20EZ7, 50HK6, 18FW6A, 18FY6A. I have done a recap on it. But has a bad resistor. Someone put in a block resistor, looks to be a 5 watt. Resistance measures 11 ohms, or did. Now it smells funny.
Problem is, never worked on this type before. No idea what size resistors, which I believe is part of the power supply line. It has been cooked before. I think part of the board has pieces popped off near the wire holes.
Anyone have schematic or any ideas. I cannot measure anything live because it will cook. I really need the schematic, but I have looked everywhere and cannot find one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for everything.

Looks like it's in Sams 759-7, so not likely to find a free schematic. http://www.oocities.org/russlk/samradio.txt is selling a Sams for your model for $10 - just in case you're willing to pay for it.

Rado Attic's Archives has this set (Arvin 35R58).

http://www.radioatticarchives.com/radio.htm?radio=9469

It has a different tube complement from the one that you described- i.e.: 18FX6, 18FW6, 12DT8, 18GD6, 20EZ7 (x2), 50HK6, and 50C5. Might your set have acquired some incorrect tubes somewhere along the line? That could account for the overheating, especially if an 18 or 20 volt tube was substituted for the 50C5.

It would be interesting to see how the series heaters are wired in this set- I am guessing that there are two separate strings, since the tube voltage values add up to 224 volts.

FWIW, there is one of these sets on eBay, starting price of 99 cents, $11.xx to ship. Appears to be in good cosmetic shape and is working, although the stereo indicator lamp is inop. This just appeared today (14 March) and is a 6-day auction.
