I have a loose red wire and can not see where it has come from, the wiring diagram is missing,simple instructions suitable for novice please.

Hi,
You did not state what item that red wire attached to, or if the radio still worked. If the radio works, you may just have an attachment for an additional external antenna. If the radio sounds like it should be working, but just cannot get enough of a signal to sound good- At the risk of making too large of an assumption, if it is attached to the loop antenna, look to see if there is a terminal on the tuning condenser or a coil or terminal strip where it might attach. On any one of those locations, you should find some remainder of the wire connection where it broke off.

If on the other hand, the wire comes from one of those locations, or a plug type connector seperate from the power cord, it should attatch to the loop antenna.

If yours is one with FM too, check the FM reception, and if that is weak, it is possible that this wire came off from a metal tab that wrapped partially around the power cord- It would use the power cord as the FM antenna, but it would rely on the insulation of the power cord to form a capacitive link between the two.
