1967 Cadillac radio

Hello everyone,

A customer brought me this 1967 car radio to repair. It is a AM/FM radio that does play.

The problem is in the tuner and push button assembly. The dial is hard to turn and the push buttons only select two stations that fortunately do bring in stations.

I have looked at it with the covers off and can see that there is a mechanical problem in the assembly.

I am not good at the mechanical repair of anything, even radio dial cords. Is there anyone out here that would give me your information to pass on to this gentleman to decide if he would ship the radio to you for repair?

I am in NC 27253, email posted.

Thank you,

Mitch

Could you give us the info on the radio (brand/model/part #)? I repaired quite a few Ford radios from the mid '60's, and the AM/FM ones are tough to work on because they basically jammed 5 lbs. of S%!t into a 1 lb. box..I'd offer to take a look at it, but let's first see if someone here has experience on that one.

I have worked on the older auto radios and have found that the grease that is used for the tuner carriage turns to wax after a few decades. Grease will also tend to trap dust and dirt.
Many times a good cleaning and re-lube will bring back proper tuner, pushbutton and Wonder Bar operation.
Don't try adjusting anything at first, as the drag of thickened grease is sometimes the only problem and you may find that no adjustments are necessary.

I took another look at the mechanics of getting into the dial/push buttom assembly and frankly cannot figure out how to get it apart for repair or cleaning.

The radio is very clean and does work.

Also i believe it is a 1968 not 1967, my error.

The data tag reads:
Model 7303215
Ser# 10831-59
Delco Radio Division General Motors Corp.

Anyone want to engage the gentleman for assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mitch
