Zenith 8S463 alignment question
2/19/2013 7:46:55 PMBill G.
Hi All,
In the Zenith 8S463 I am restoring the coil marked as '7' was open. I have been able to find a replacement.
I assumed that it was used to keep the converter stage from oscillating at the IF.
My question is this. How is it best adjusted?

The schematic can be found on this site, http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/455/M0025455.htm

You need to find the alignment instructions for Zenith chassis 5808. The adjustment procedure regarding the wavetrap adjustment is supposedly sensitive to the order in which it is performed with respect to the entire alignment steps.

Hi Tom,
Thank you for the response.
Any idea where those alignment instructions could be found. I have looked but not come up with anything.

Here's a scan of the alignment procedure that might be useful:

The “wave trap” is to suppress unwanted RF getting into the signal path. Back then a frequency close to the IF frequency would interfere. The trap was adjusted to reject that frequency. Nowadays it’s not really needed. You can adjust the trimmer wide open. There is no difference in the radios performance.

Thank you, Warren, for clearing that up.
It isn't for oscillation at all!

Bill,

For a little bit of discussion of the 'wave trap':
