Slight Hum

Montgomery ward Rider 13-73 Model 14wg-806, I replaced orginal 500K volume control with a new 500k volume control, turned on & I notice a hum. What is the problem??

So, the set was hum-free BEFORE you replaced the volume control? If so, I would check lead dress on the replaced part- make sure that the volume control feed line runs against the chassis, not sticking up in free space where it can be an "antenna" for EM fields. Ground side of the control should be as short as possible. Coupling cap that runs from the control tap to the audio amp grid should have leads as short as possible and any ajacent wiring kept well away from it.

Did you replace any other parts when you replaced the control?
