Flat Capacitors -the real post-

Hello,

I'm having difficulting identifying four capacitors in an Emerson table top radio. Three are rectangular and made by Micamold. Two of these are type O and brown in color with three colored dots on the back - red, red, brown. The other rectangular one is also Micamold, but black in color with three dots on the back - brown, yellow, brown. The last capacitor is square and made by Solar. It has the number 00022 on the back. Any help in identifying the correct farads and voltages for these caps would be greatly appreciated. I've already replaced all the wax paper caps and now the radio at least plays, but with a hum. I imagine replacing these last ones will help that problem. Thanks,

Hi Christopher

Capacitor color code is the same as used for resistors. Red, Red Brown would be 220 pfd. Brown, yellow, brown would be 140 pfd. The following site has more information about capacitor color codes.

One thing to add.. Hum is usually caused by electrolytic filter capacitors. Be sure they have been replaced.
