"Rudolph-Lone Ranger" Style Majestic Radio
1/4/2013 3:58:49 PMBrianC
I found a Majestic 'Charlie McCarthy' style brown bakelite radio in rough shape, but it's missing the figure, whatever one it was (Rudolph, Lone Ranger, etc). It has the 12AV6, 50C5, 12BE6, 35W4 lineup, since it was a kid's radio. Anyone know if there are repros of any of those figures for those radios (It looks like this Airline in shape and knob style---

Here's the largest photo with its detail . . . incorporating the" Lone Stranger " insets plaques aspect.

Now if you can just locate a local "Shady Lady" / artisan /hobbiest with her ceramics-porcelains clays

and slips and paints n'glazes and her firing kiln, she just might be able to hand form and make you up a replicate.

I know that my deceased mother in law could have totally made one up from scratch.

You might get better value with a Charlie McCarthy figure on there. Maybe slightly more popular than Mr. Ranger, but that's just my guess. I have seen a reproduction of Charlie made by a guy that makes knobs. If it was "theoldradiofixerupperguy", (I think it was), his website is sick with Malware at the moment.

Just as a follow up to my thread...From researching what I can find on the 'net about this model Majestic/Airline, I found some pics of a LR restoration that show 2 mounting holes and a pilot light hole for the character, which are not present on mine. I did see a reference to this model that had a floral arrangement piece on the front where the LR or Rudolph went. I'm guessing that may be what mine had. Just checking if anyone here may have some knowledge or have seen the floral model.....

I found some pics here of the whole lineup.
The Floral model could be the rarest of all. I sure wouldn't have wanted one in my room. :>)

I see the Majestics came in Plaskon and Beetle. When you said Bakelite, I thought of the Charlie McCarthy model, but I see now they have the slide-rule dial and of course 1938-ish chassis and tubes.

Here's an Airline with a different flower that has a pilot light behind it.

Thanks for the info on those 2 other 'floral' radios John. The thing that baffles me is, my radio is brown plastic and has no holes drilled for the light that shines thru the figure. Mine isn't set up with any pilot light on the chassis. It's almost as if it was sold as a 'plain Jane' factory model. I'm currently painting it antique white, since it needed some crack repair on the cabinet. I could retro-fit a LR or Rudolph if I find one. I'd love to find a Wards catalog from that period and look for it in there.

Brian, I see the Majestic "fruit and flower" model has the pineapple in the very same spot as Rudolph's nose and Trigger's face, so it's a good bet the pineapple has a pilot light behind it as well.

The only versions we know of so far without pilot lights are the Charlie McCarthie radios. Maybe they wouldn't sell very well in 1949-50, so Majestic switched to more popular figures with added pilot lights? Just speculating now. Good luck with it. Like I said, I have seen a reproduction Charlie pictured on a website, but can't find it at the moment.
