Regency Touch K-100 Scanner
1/6/2002 10:22:16 AMCheryl
Was given this scanner. Had been unplugged for over year and when turned on, every channel shows 47.500 frequency. Tried pushing "manual"; go to channel 1; punch in desired frequency; push "enter"; then put to scan. Channel 1 again shows 47.500. I have no manual for this, nor do I know where I can obtain a manual. Can anyone help with this?

Hi,
I doubt you will find a manual for that one, but try this:
Put scanner in manual mode, enter a frequency, usually on that era between 32,000 and 70,000, and then again between 138,000 to 172,000, and maybe 380,000 to 512,000.
Once you have punched in your frequency for that channel, press the "Enter" button, and it should accept it if the frequency is one that the radio is designed to recieve. It should move to the next channel, but if it does not, press "manual" again, and it should advance to the next channel, and you do the same thing for each channel until all are prgrammed. To get it scanning quietly until a signal is heard, turn up the "Squelch" until you get silence (assuming your channel is initially free from a signal), and the radio should start scanning. You may need to turn up the squelch a little more in the event that you recieve some signals that are just on the fringe of reception, and those will sometimes not be able to be heard, but they stop the scanning action.

You can find lists for police and fire frequencies, and possibly some local to you, however you usually have to find them with search engines. You might even try just entering "K-100" into the search to see if someone might happen to have a manual for another Regency of that vintage. Most will program the same, and Uniden pretty much bought up the relevent patents that Regency and Bearcat held. There is a remote possibility that Uniden may have some archive for those, but it is doubtful.

Hi,
The K100 dates from about 1979. None of that era that I am aware of used a serial computer interface.

BTW, an aside for the newer sanners- The "modern" Radio Shack/Uniden (and I would suspect Relm, and other too), do not require a special program to connect- they use the built in (bundled) Telnet program of Windows from XP down to 3.0.

You may need to utilize a gender changer at times, but it is essentially a DB9 Serial port. Their instructions are quite simple, and quite clear in the manuals. Radio Shack does support their Scanners, and have manuals online for no cost to you.

To john mcpherson,
You werent very far off at all. I have a K100 and I programed it by going to the desired channel, putting in the frequency, and then selected the next channel. That works for me. Hopefully it will work for you
