About 40 years ago I had several tears in the cone of a 12 inch speaker in my GE E126 console. I cut paper strips about three quarters of an inch wide and pasted over the tears. The speaker and radio are still working fine. I used ordinary typing paper. I forgot what glue I used.

Hi Bert, yes a paper cone can be repaired with some tissue paper and use some white elmers glue ever so slighly diluted with water, you place a piece of tissue paper slightly wider than the tear and with a soft brush or q-tip dab the glue on the tissue paper to soak tru make sure that tear in cone is tight might even have to use some tape on the underside depending on how resilient the tear is, and let dry, should be good as new.

A lot of people also use tea bag paper, it's more fibrous and holds up better than tissue paper.

I keep old junked speakers, and cut sections of the paper from the junker to 'paste' over any holes or wide missing area in the 'good' speaker. If it's just a slight tear, push the paper back together, and I use service cement over the tear. Good as new. As long as the repair section doesn't rattle or make noise when the speaker used, no one will know the difference..and the speaker will sound as good as old. I have patched large areas using the re-purposed old cone paper, and saved many a speaker, and $$$.
