Hi Walter,
Sorry I miscounted the tubes . It actually has 11 tubes. The only markings are on a plate at the back of the three-gang condenser : 25X1190, and the name Wells Gardner &Co. on the front of the receiver. It looks very similar to the National NC-100 series.
From what I could find out on the internet these were made right before WWII by Wells Gardner as a contractor for National Company for the US Navy.I am trying to restore it but it would be next to impossible to do that without an exact schematic because a few of the wires have been damaged by the sliding bottom coil catacomb.
I am new to antique radios and any help or guidance will be much appreciated.

Hi Steve,
you missed my reply to your last month request...
I try to find it but the page is now disappeared...?
So here it is again:
I think the National NC100 might be the civilian version of the Rao.
Here are the links you need:

National main page

http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/national/

NC100

http://bama.edebris.com/download/national/nc100/nc100,101Xmanual.pdf

Cheers from Italy,
Umberto

Thank you Umberto and Walter. Sorry I missed Umberto and Dennis"s replies from last month. I am getting the hang of the forum.
After more research I now know that what I have is a Wells Gardner RAO 4...not 5. The 5 series came with a speaker but not the 4 series. They are indeed the Navy version of the NC-100s with some modifications and a real sturdy build.
The only place where I could find a manual for this receiver is this website http://www.vintagemanuals.com/index.html
The cost is 26.00 + 5.00 shipping. It's a high quality instructions and service manual of about seventy pages(bound and high resolution)
The manual is on its way. As to the receiver I'll post a couple of pics as soon as I figure out how to do it on here.
