1U4 substitute for 26

Norm, you suggested one alternative for a #26 tube to use one of the 1.5V portable radio tubes. I find the 1U4 would seem to work well as an RF amp in a TRF stage. Plate voltages are about the same. Can I just leave the screen grid open on the 1U4?

I responded to the other thread first. Try a 1U4 but connect screen to plate. You will have more gain than with a 26.

As a RF amplifier don't think you will add much hum. Tried this in an AK40 years ago.

Make an adapter with 4 pin base and 7 pin min socket.

Norm, I tried a 1T4 in place of the 26 in my Philco Model 87. It worked good, but seems the gain is just a little bit lower than the 26. Is the 1U4 higer gain than the 1T4?
