Q1: I am looking for original equipment wood knobs for my Silvertone model 1250. Being the fussy guy that I am I want them to look EXACTLY like the originals. Any hope?
Q2: Some of the wood in front of the speaker is damaged. How do you tell what kind of wood the cabinet is made of? Any certain way? I want to do the repair myself and need to know the wood type. Mahogany? Birch? etc?
Thanks All
Lou

Well the radio ( a TRF, 1932!!) works very well, but someone damaged the wood work in front of the speaker. It is a Cathedral and from my old price guide it is a RARE Cathedral so I am more motivated to get it all together. It uses one type 80, three type 24As and one type 45.I may be on the hunt for knobs so that I will check out Radio Pup. The knobs are large and fancy ( a little design in the middle of the front of the knob ).Thanks George and NA!!
PS: This set picks up stations well in my basement with three feet of wire so it MUST be good!!Howeve, someone replaced the electrolytics a while back and did it "dead bug" style i.e. left the parts hanging in space underneath the chassis with very little support. The first time I tuned it the tuning mechanism underneath the chassis shorted against the wiring!! I'll straighten THAT out.

:Hi Lou,
:How Ya Doin? Haven't been able to fine a picture of that model radio or even a year. Is it a Cathedral? Lots of time those old radios were hit with toners so the wood may look like one type but be something all together different. Do you have any old radio cabinets around that you can salvage the veneer off of? Or send me a picture of the radio and something were you need the veneer for size reference and I might have something lying around that will work for you. I have some Birch and Walnut. BTW checks in the mail. I will have to check but I might have a link to a guy that fabricates knobs but they aren't cheap. If they are simple knobs you can make repros, with a poor mans lathe, (drill & razor blade) you can pick up inserts with Allen set screws from Radio Daze. George T

Look up RadioPup on ARF (Antique Radio Forums) or post there for your knobs. RadioPup would be my first place to check. Tell them Nostalgia Air sent you.
