Hello everyone,

I would like to share some photos of a radio i just finished.

A customer came in my radio shop in May and asked if i could fix his old radio? I told him i do not repair radios but restore them. He left to go and think about it. He brought the radio in that week with the story.

The story:

The radio had been in his basement for 40 years, it belonged to his mother in law. He never heard the radio play nor had his son. His wife just passed with cancer and never heard the radio play. He wants his son, who also has cancer, to hear the radio play before he passes.

I call this the "Hope Radio".

The radio is completely restored and 100% functional. The hardest part was the dial belt, Warren contributed the belt material and instructions.

The customer will be picking the radio up this weekend.

I want to thank all on NA for the years of help that you have given me.

Mitch, that is a beaut. But, maybe the knobs should have an oil finish? Admittedly, I don't know what the originals looked like.

Sir Mitch. . . . .

You knows whuts . . . .that mother in law had one grand radio for its / her time . . . .

I had to have some sacrificial lambs in the respect of the wastebasket , the units grille cloth and the Elmers glue bottle, but, at least now, you can see the whole cabinets woodwork.

(Und I didn't even harm der 'Cherman radio in the background ! )

Seems like I can just visualize where " Fats the cat " was all comfortably curled up in the front of the unit.

If man EVOLVED from monkeys and apes . . . . . why do we STILL have monkeys and apes ? ? ?

Too all,

The man and his son picked up the radio tonight, they cried as they heard it play together. i silently cried with them.

After they left i picked up my cat "FATs" up off of the floor and he died in my arms.

One of GOD's gift to others, a radio to a dying son and the life of my cat.

I respect all of you out here and am heart broken about the mans son with cancer and maybe my cat that i have lost tonight to his world.

He was my last love of life next to my wife that died of cancer also.

Thank you for being with me on this Forum.

That’s a very touching story Mitch. Sorry about your cat.

Mitch:
I, too, am a pet lover. I know your pain. It shows that you are a kind and good man. God bless you.

Hi Mitch,
One of the best things about restoring radios like that one is that it is a little like resurrection. After 40 years of being dead and hopless, it plays.

Many Blessings,

Bill Grimm
