GRUNDIG-2070 HiFi ZAUBERKLANG
12/25/2001 7:40:50 PMJim Howard
My son has just brought me a Grundig radio he found at a yard sale in Germany. It has what appears to be 6 bands-aus,ta,lw mw,kw and ukw.It also has a plug in typical for Germany-two round rods to plug into recepticle. The back has 110v/125v/160v/220v and wechselstrom 50-47w.
My questions are (1) Where can I find out more about this and(2)Will it work with our 60 hertz? Can I plug it into 220v,60hz?
Thanks,Jim

Hi Jim

I've sent you Grundig 2070 schematic. A radio designed for 50 cycle will operate on 60 cycles unless there is a clock motor. A clock designed for 50 cycles will run fast on 60 cycles.

Thank you very much Norm.I got the schematic and I removed the 3 amp fuse from the 220v circuit and installed a 6 amp fuse in the 125v circuit.I plugged it in and turned it on.The dial lamps lit up and the radio is playing. It sounds GREAT!
I really appreciate it,Jim

Hi Jim
Grundig radios were well known for their good sound.
You must check the capacitors. If they are of the type
" ERO 100", they are to be replaced with sufficient
mylar caps.
The ERO 100 is a wax-sealed paper cap. The wax breaks
and humidity gets into the cap.

You say something about 3 and 6 Amp fuses.
I hope you mean 0.3 and 0.6 Amp.

Antenna and speaker connectors are for the
4mm banana plug.
