RCA? or RCA? cabinet and chassis
9/9/2012 9:58:32 PMMitch
Hello everyone,

I picked up a RCA Model 36X, this is the RCA sticker model number on the bottom of the wooden cabinet.

The model number on the sticker on the back of the attached loop antenna of the chassis reads model number 15X. The chassis has been modified to fit into the cabinet.

The tube line up of the chassis is 35Z5, 12SK7, 12SA7, 12SK7, 12SQ7 and 50L6.

The schematic for the 15X calls for a 12J5GT in place of one of the 12SK7's and a 35L6. I can see the 50L6 being changed but what about this 12J5GT which is not in the chassis.

The schematic is here on NA.

Do i have the correct schematic?

Thank you,

Mitch

Mitch:

The 12J5 is the local oscillator for the converter tube, 12SG7 in the 15X schematic. In your chassis , the 12SA7 has the local oscillator function built in.

So-o, You have:

35Z5 Rect
12SK7 RF AMP
12SA7 Converter ( with LO built in)
12SK7 IF Amp
12SQ7 Det/1st Audio
50L6 Audio Out

You COULD have:

35Z5 Rect
12SG7 Converter
12J5 Local Oscillator
12SK7 IF Amp
12SQ7 Det/1st Audio
35L6 Audio Out

ASSUMING you have model 15X, someone may have rewired your set for the first tube complement. Perhaps they were having trouble finding a 12J5 tube ( not so common ).

Lou

OK - scratch that explanation I just made!!!!!!!!!!!

Round TWO.

I found the schematic for the 15X on another site.

The tube complement on THIS schematic is:

35Z5 RECT
12SK7 RF AMP
12SA7 DET OSC
12SK7 IF AMP
12SQ7 DET 1st AUDIO
35L6 OUTPUT

I think this is the schematic you want. Send me an e-mail and I will e-mail it back to you.

Looks like someone put a 50L6 in place of the 35L6 you have , which is perfectly acceptable.

Lou
