Binding Post Screw for a J 38 Key
9/4/2012 12:07:17 AMLou
Guys:

I am reactivating my Amateur Radio setup and I have a J 38 morse code key installed in that setup. Unfortunately somewhere in transit from my old house, one of the two binding post brass screws came loose and fell off ( probably into the box or bag where it was stored). Where can I locate a new, original one? Any ideas?

Thanks Again
Lou

Which screws do you need?

I was thinking I could make them from brass rod on my lathe, but the only knurling tool I have would create a cross-hatch pattern on the rim of the screw.

Nice of you to offer.

I am going to try and locate another J38 key, perhaps at a hamfest. If I do not succeed at that maybe the local hardware store screw selection may have something, but I am not sure.I am very fussy about my Ham equipment!!

You might look in the lamp parts area of the hardware store. Sometimes they have replacement knurled items. Might be the wrong thread, but if it's a larger thread, it may be able to be re-threaded.

This site seems to have a lot of screws with knurled heads:
