Howard Radio 275

Hi, all. Just picked up this radio and it will be a while before I have time to do anything with it. The tag said "just buzzes" on it, so I assume it doesn't work. Also appears to have several "repairs" that worry me, with wires hanging. Anyway, my question has to do with the antenna connections. It appears by the schematic that the BC, SW, and police bands each have their own antenna connection. On the back of the chassis there are three wires coming out and going up to what appears to be a part that is not original. They could be binding posts for the antenna connections, but they are metal knobs that pull out. Does anyone have this set and can verify if this is original to the radio? It is a wooden table top set. Thanks. Mark from Kalamazoo

Hello:

Have any pics of this "extra" instrument? If so send them along on my e-mail.

Okay, Lou, sent some pix to you. Let me know if you got them. Mark from Kalamazoo

Well, they look like simple binding post connections i.e. someone wanted to make it easy to connect the radio to ANT, GND and maybe a LONG DISTANCE ANT. Thats what it appears to me.

PS : Older sets usually had a local, distant and ground connection for the antenna r.e. three connections.

Lou: Thanks for taking a look at the pix. However, I have decided that those are not binding posts, but rather a set of three pull switches. Looking at the schematic, it would seem that the radio had three seperate antenna connections for BC, SW, and police bands. I really think that someone added this switch to make it easier to connect an antenna. I checked it with my meter and the switches are closed when a knob is pulled out. I don't believe that it is original to the set. Has anyone seen one of these radios and if so, what do the antenna connections look like in the back? Thanks. Mark from Kalamazoo

For the record I have never seen an arrange ment like this.

Looks like some one added it - perhaps to protect the set when there was a lightning storm in the area.
