philco shadow meter

Have a philco 645 and I took apart the shadow meter and cleaned it. Put 12 volts to it and it moves. Installed it, new bulb adjusted the thing for visibility. Will not adjust at all when tuning, any tips before I tear into the chassis?

Hi Craig

Meter deflects by changes in screen current on RF and OSC/Mixer tubes. The current goes down as a station is tuned in. Be sure both tubes have good emission and radio is aligned. Is B+ voltage close?

Actually 6A7 plate current is part of the circuit but it operates the same way.

::Now the vane is moving. The vane is straight and when the station is tuned in the vane moves causing a wider dark shadow. What position is the vane supposed to be when the radio is off?

Hi Craig, sounds like the wires to the shadow meter are reversed, on a strong station the shadow should be just a narrow slit, off station should be wide almost full shadow.
