Speaker replacement

I have a radio which calls for a 2k ohm field coil in the speaker. It is missing the speaker but I have an old speaker that I want to put in it and it has a 1k ohm field coil. Can I just put a 1k ohm 10w resistor in series with the field coil?

In my opinion you can probably get away with it. You may have a bit more residual hum due to less choking action but it may not be noticeable. I have found that these power supplies were overdesigned. All agree?

It should work but best to check the schematic. Some fields are used in series with B+. That type of circuit will be ok. Other fields are across B+ to B-.
