I have this victrola attachment record player (1939) and it will run if you give it a good spin to get it going. Is this normal or should it start by itself? If so, what is wrong that it won't start by itself?

John,
Have you cleaned and lubed it?

Should this start on it's own without a spin from me?

John: I have a RCA record player and it must be started by hand. Does yours have the heavy turntable and rotor? I think that's normal. Mark from Kalamazoo

Thanks Mark. I think you must be right. Seems to run good but always needs a start and there is no start capacitor.
