Restoring finish of hard rubber knobs
6/22/2012 2:13:02 AMPerry
I am restoring a Crosley 52 Special from 1925. The back of the knobs (not exposed to direct light nor oils in one's hands for some 80 years) is smooth and shiny. However, the front of the hard rubber knobs are dull, flat black. How do you restore the finish of hard rubber items?
Thanks!

Have you tried Armorall? Might restore some shine. I have also read about a product for use on the bottom of athletic shoes with rubber soles - it's supposed to revive the rubber without making it slippery. Haven't tried it yet, but could help. Mark from Kalamazoo

Give BRASSO a try (the "original" formula in the metal can, not the new weaker stuff in the plastic container). Works great on bakelite, plastic, etc, etc.

Use some good elbow grease to polish them up.

Hi, I personally would give good old shoe polish a shot. Don't let it dry and buff it up to a shine. It should be done by hand a buffer might and probably would hurt the rubbler. Shoe polish also works great on Bakelite. Good luck George T
