Philco 38-9 secondary tap voltages

Would anyone know what would be a typical voltage reading from the secondary tap to the chasis. Right now the ends of the secondary windings attach to the two plates on the recifier tube and both plates show around 300 vdc and the tap shows 16 vdc. Thanks

Richard,

That may be pretty close. A 6F6 tube needs approximately -16.5 volts on it's control grid (pin 5)with 250 volts on it's plate and 285 volts on it's screen grid. Check the voltage on pin 5 and see if it is close to the voltage you measured on the centertap. If it is then the output stage is probably ok as is the coupling cap. If the voltage is low or some positive value, check the coupling cap between the output tube grid and previous stage plate for leakage. Also check the grid resistor connected to pin 5.

You should be reading AC volts from the power transformer to the plates of the rectifier. 300 or so volts would be correct. Notice at C-45 the DC voltage is 330 VDC. The center tap of the power transformer is above ground for negative voltage. Around 16 volts is correct.
