hi. ok four 6v6 tubes plus two 10 watt amps. ok i have two 10 watt arkay amps that take 6v6 output tubes. this is a push pull output on these. one amp has a tube line up of one each. 12ax7 12au7 12at7 two 6v6. other is one of each 6sc7 6sL7 6sk7. two 6v6 tubes. in one amp the 6v6 tubes are noisey . these four tubes [6v6] are the same name type. switch them over to the other amp and no noise. same with the other amp noise is gone. very strange. thank you paul

Wiggle and twist the tubes in their sockets. Could be bad socket connection or poor solder joint to tube lead wire inside socket pin. I have seen this numerous times with 6V6 GT tubes. Different amp / tube pin combinations put pressure in different places on pins and sockets - and also on resistors and capacitors wired with stiff wire to tube sockets. However what you describe is not at all unusual. A tube that is noisy might be quiet in a similar circuit because different bias puts the tube at a different operating point in relation to voltages and currents. EdM

thank you for the info. the sockets are brand new. also resolderd all the conections. the other amp that the tubes work well in has a different mounting. the tubes lying on there side. but if i put the amp in away that the tubes stand straight up then the tube gets noisey. so the tube is the bad seed. thank you. need to get new tube again from A.E.S.

The wires in the tube pins may need re-soldering. Heat each pin and add solder into the holes. File or sand off any excess solder so the tube fits back into the socket. This is common for tubes that get hot. Worth a try.

Could be that the tube in question is microphonic and when placed vertical noise goes away, try lightly tapping tube with fingernail to see if that induces noise, if so, get a replacement abd toss he bad one.

if i tap the tube with my finger it goes crazy. the tubes are brand new from A.E.S. they are elctro -harmonix tubes. the tube that makes all the noise only does this for about 10 min. then works perfect the rest of the time. let it cool over night and bam! it actsup all over again. bought new tube on epay. thank you for the information. paul

Hi Paul, just because they are new does not mean they can be bad, they are pretty delicate and can get dammaged, loose internal and there You have it, semms the worst on audio type tubes, Dale

I was repairing a Traynor guitar amp for my nephew. I had it sitting tubes up on the bench, idling nice and quite, with new caps and grounded power cord. I put the chassis back into the cabinet, where the tubes hang upside down. Warming up, the plates of the power tubes started glowing cherry red. I cut power, plopped the chassis back out on the bench, could find no problem?? But then applied power with the tubes hanging down and got redplates again. Both power tubes had loose connection that only shorted when they were hanging down.

hi john, i repaired a fender amp years ago. the amp had two 6L6 tubes. he tubes glowed purple when hot and amp would get very noisey. replaced all the caps and out of tolerance resistors at least twice but amp still worked the same.all the voltages were correct. tubes were very expensive back then. never did find out what was wrong with the amp. paul
