tx, but no voice
12/5/2001 10:59:56 AMJason
Hi all, I finally figured out why I never seem to get a responce on my cb. Using a friend with another cb, I found that my radio does transmit, but no voice is transmitted. (With my friend's squelch turned all the way down the noise is silenced while I transmit).

I thought it was the mic, so I switched. I got the same thing; transmission but no voice. Could this be an internal problem? Is it almost certainly a mic problem because the radio does transmit? I am able to adjust swr and am able to read the wattage output also.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Jason

The mic feeds a modulation amplifier in your CB. There could be a problem with this amplifier circuit?

Crystal microphones can go bad. Without the microphone connected try transmitting with your finger touching the center terminal of the mic connector. If the amplifier is operating the person receiving should hear hum.

Hi,
Also check the wires and solder joints from the mic plug to the circuit board, or if the plug was soldered directly to a small pc board, or main board, look for a broken solder track, especially if it looks like the cb has been dropped.

Also check the battery if you are using a preamplified microphone.

Excellent suggestions. I'll check the inside of the mic and do the finger test.

Thanks again!
