it goes in a radio that has supertone on the front, but cant find anywhere to buy one. Thanks

That is a ballast tube. You have a few options to replace it with. A dropping resistor, or an AC diode and resistor, or an AC capacitor with surge resistor. Last option buy a used or NOS ballast tube. Google the part number with ballast tube.

Hi Richard

185R8 is a ballast resistor. It's used in series wirg filaments in an AC/DC radio. If bad no tubes filaments will light.

Here is one place selling ballast tubes. If you don't see the same number an universal type may work?

185R8 drops 55 volts @ 300 ma and was mainly used in Firestone 7422-3.

There are other ways around using a ballest resistor, read this:

Sir Robert. . . . .

That is being an octal based regulator "tube" , basically just a droppig resistor for the filament string of that set when used on AC line operation.

Its in the order of 185 ohms resistance when heated up.

If you find it impossible to find one, you might just use two power resistors to replace it, or in combination with a "paper" dropper capacitor, with the use of an additional series resistor to do any dropping / balancing for any shunting pilot lights.

Would need to know the pilot light #'s or their voltage /current specs in order to compute the pilot light shunt resistor aspect.

STRANGE ? . . . . . I am having an out of money experience..
