Philco 46-1209 122 run
5/4/2012 6:05:38 PMElton
Does any one have a revised schematic for the 46-1209 122? You can find the 121 everywhere, but not for the set with the 7AF7 osc tube in it. This one has no SW , and in searching on the web it seems this run had problems on SW, thoughts were it was due to using the 7AF7 in place of the 7B6. But i know there are components missing on my set that show in the 121 schematic, and it is hard to tell what I should have and not.
Any Help is appreciated.

The Philco 48-460 does use the 14AF7 for the converter oscillator. The front end of this radio should be close to yours.

The Philco 46-1226 does use the 7AF7 I have the Sams folder on this radio. This may be more like yours in the front end.

Warren, The schematic you have for the 46-1226 must be
a 122 run as well , because the one here on the site uses a 7F8?

The Sams for the Philco 46-1226 does not mention a run number. Tube line up 7AF7 converter. (2) 7H7 1st and 2nd IF. 7C6 Det-Avc-Af. 6J5 Phase inverter. (2) 6K6 Output. 5Y3 rectifer. If you need a scan in the .pdf format. Send me an E-Mail I can do that for you.

Warren, thanks for the scan, a strange thing happened today , I turned on the radio to warm it up and SW started comming in across the dial, this radio has never worked on SW for years... but it slowly faded out in about 30 seconds to nothing, now why it did that I have no idea because I didn't mess with it , but since it played for that short time I would think it confirms the coils are good on it , I checked pin 4 of the 7AF7 tube and no voltage at all. Everything I need to check is under the band switch so.... looks like I will have to remove it, it apears there are only about 5 or 6 wires that need to be removed lots of pictures before I start ...there are a couple old caps under it and some resistors that look old, I will replace everything under the switch to be sure . Will update as I go.

Well I got SW! there is a 10 pf neutralizing mica cap , it's purpose I don't know but I by passed it and SW across the dial .... Maybe thats why it was called neutralizing cap , it neutralized the SW., But seriously for micas not known for going bad, this is the second one in a row... the last radio a zenith also had a bad one. I wont count these out too often now!

Well done, Elton. Failure of a 10 pF capacitor is not common. Perhaps it was improperly soldered.
Troubleshooting these exercises the patience.
