I am restoring an Airboy AR-96-23 and have some questions:
Did they use this radio in sport aeroplanes or gliders?
It's a LW radio what kind of antenna is usefull?
Does somebody has a picture (color maybee) because I am missing the leather strap and I want to repaint the case.
There is a TWR sign on the 360 Kc what does it means?
Thanks,

Hi,
It most likely was a radio aimed towards small airplane pilot use, and to a very limited extent marine use.

The longwave antenna internal on the radio should be directional (if so equipped), but very few transponders are in service compared to what was in use in the early fifties.

Adding an external LW antenna is going to be limiting usefulness as you are not going to be turning your house towards the beacon, unless your house is an RV.

There really is not that much on Long Wave anymore, but the longwire antenna, or a shortwire with a hefty loading coil (older aircraft antennas do turn up once in a while too.) can work aceptably well- but don't expect to pull in more than one or two channels if you are located in the center of the North American continent.

TWR, would be "tower" as you surmise.
