craig,
glue one side or the top side on as straight as possible and let it dry for a day.
Next, spray the cloth with hot water from a plant sprayer and then proceed with glueing the remaining sides. A cut to fit strip of the cheap 1/4 x 1" corner moulding works good to pull the cloth evenly while the glue dries if possible. Dont try to manipulate with fingers, you'll pull it unevenly. (it's possible but frustrating)
I just use a thin layer of elmer's, let it get tacky, then proceed. You may have to hold it in place for several mins or more, but if you get a good hold before the water dries, it will tighten nicely. The trick is glue dries before cloth

Hi,
Easiest method I have found is to either spray an adhesive like "Super 77" by 3M in a layer about as heavy as you would apply a coat of spray paint, or you can spread a thin layer of yellow wood glue.

Let it dry. Super 77 dries a little faster, so that is one I prefer. If you need to go make adjustments later, the adhesive will be a bit more forgiving. It is not as forgiving if you spray too much, or work the adhesive through the fabric.

Next step is to take an old iron (it is assumed that you have already ironed the cloth, and applied a fair amount of starch), set it in the "High" range- no steam. Layout your fabric, carefully work one corner, let it cool a couple of seconds, then choose which direction you need to straighten so that the pattern lays right- pull it that way to make it tight and your reference straight, and iron it into place. If your first corner needs adjustment, go back and correct it, otherwise move to the next corner.

The starch will give the cloth more body than without it, and any white spots that form can be gently brushed away.

Hi!
I find an easy way of stretching the cloth after it has been ironed is to place it in an embroidery hoop or quilting frame. They come in many sizes for quite a reasonable price. You can even buy an adjustable quilting frame, that will do almost any size.

www.partsexpress.com offers a plastic frame for mounting grill cloth to the front of the speaker. You might want to check it out. It's an entire kit.
