Victor Radio

Hello gentlemen.
I have found a Victor radio model 38-v in a shed on a nearby farm. Unfortunatly the case is in very poor condition from sitting in that shed for God knows how long.
Can anyone tell me where I could find some info such as pictures (so I can rebuild the case) or a schematic?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, I have a good collection of RCA VICTOR service
manuals. I cannot find a model 38-V in them. Nor in
Riders Index. Are you referring to an RCA built radio?
Closest thing I can find are models: R-38 & R-38-P.
Can you supply a tube line-up (numbers on tubes)?
Regards, Doc

No Doc there is no mention of RCA at all on the label.
It says just "Victor" on the dial cover.
It is an 8 tube radio, but unfortunatly none of the tubes are with it.

thanks, Tom

Hey Tom,

I've got a Victor Radio R-39 (currently on E-bay - never found the time to restore the cabinet)
and I suspect it's similar. If so it uses a 80 rectifier, two 45 as outputs, a 24A as a detector/1st audio and three 27s. I found a schematic on this site somewhere. Mine still operates with all of the original components.

Thanks GW, at least its some info that I didn't have before. Perhaps canadian models were numbered differently and thats why I am having trouble locating a schematic here at Nostalgia air. Anyway I will check yours out on Ebay.
Thanks, Tom

While doing a little research for my dad I found your site. here is what I know about the radio. I hope you find it interesting. My Dad has my Grandmothers 38 v in original condition with it's original receipt it shows nipper on the metal medallion. it is also marked american bosch magneto corp. It was distributed by heintzman piano in London Ontario. The receipt was marked Victor Radio 12076 and cost $183.00 on june 23 1929. Also saved was a clipping of a newspaper illustration of the radio. My dad had the radio working,However it is not working at this time.

Check over the insides carefully and see if you see a reference to
The Victor Talking Machine Company of Canada, or any other information related to Canada. If this
is from Canada, the RCA log would probably not appear on the cabinet.

You might want to check with this site: http://www.justradios.com/schematics.html

Thanks David, yes there are plenty of references to Canada ( my home and native land ). It also says His Masters Voice Limited, the "nipper logo", and The American Bosch Magneto Corporation.
I have visited the site you mentioned and it looks like I will place an order with them.
Thank you again, Tom.

You should look for the "Radio College of Canada" data books at the local public library. The V38 was manufactured in 1928-1929 - and is a 25 cycle AC model (unlike the 60 cycles we have today).

If you email me, I can send the email of a person who has scanned the RCC, and sells it on cd for $10 US.
