3/24/2002 1:54:42 PMJanice Frye
I have recently acquired a Firestone Air Chief 4-A-30 console radio, cabinet in excellent condition, radio does not work , appears to have no missing tubes or parts, except for the tuner bar on the front of the radio, I am assuming it was glass and got broken and the needle . I need a schematic for this and information, anything would be appreciated. Thank You Janice Frye

Hi Janice

Information about Firestone 4-A-30 can be found on nostalgiaair:

http://ww3.nostalgiaair.org/schematics/FTR/_FTR_18-27.gif

After viewing the first page change 18-27 to 18-28, in the address, for a second page. Keep doing this until all pages about your radio are viewed. Go slow, allow at least 30 seconds between pages or you will get "quota exceeded".

Hi Janice,
Your Firestone 4-A-30 is listed in the Collector's Guide to Antique Radios as a 1949 model worth approximately $70-$80.

There is information here on Nostalgia Air for your model. Select "Online Schematics" followed by "Rider's by Original Index", then select "Firestone Tire and Rubber Co." Before responding to your post, I checked out the listing for your model. It wasn't really a schematic; just a tube diagram and alignment instructions.

Sam's Photofact will likely have the schematic diagram you need; these schematics became available after World War II. I don't have a Sam's index with me; perhaps someone else could help you with locating a Sam's schematic.

One place to start would be to make sure the tubes are plugged into the correct sockets. I have acquired radios in the past where the tubes were plugged into the incorrect socket. Most radios will have a tube diagram inside the cabinet.

Good Luck,
Mark
