AC/DC receiver and floating ground

Posted by Norm Leal on 02/09/2010 00:18

Hi Scott

In most AC/DC radios the chassis is isolated from AC line with a cap. The cap prevents a direct short but a person can still get a shock. In turn the chassis is mounted into a wooden or plastic cabinet. This keeps a person from coming in contact with the chassis.

Arvin is different. They made radios in small metal cabinets. A person touching the cabinet can still get a shock if they are also grounded.

Norm

:In laymans language....what is floating ground vs ground. I am working on a Arvin 444 and trying to understand the connections but keep scratching my head on the floating ground issue.
