Bakelite case repair

Posted by Mike M on 12/16/2004 12:20

Bill,

I think the model is a CV280. I'm not sure because the numbers are gone. The schematic for the CV280 is a nice match though.

:What's the model number of your radio? Possibile junkers out there with good case or folks with only good case. I don't have any Emerson cases now but I get items in off and on, even just cases. Others probably do the same. I have seen sets repaired with bondo and painted. I don't know how strong or long bondo lasts. The sets looked good to me. It seems like a lot of effort tho. I waited a long time for a Zenith case and it finally came thru. Also been waiting for a Fada, been years I've now forgot how long. Repair by some method may be only option for the more hard-to-find radios.

::I have an old Emerson with a crakked bakelite case.
::
::The crack runs from the left back to front along the corner and then extends down the front on the left corner. I've visited several web sites that recommend using bondo.
::
::Is this good repair material? Any other ideas?
::I'd like to add pigment to whatever I use to match the color so no painting would be required.
::
::Thanks,

::Mike M.
