| :I don't know what happened to it before I got it, but there are no discolorations on the speaker cone. The original grill cloth is odor-free. I wonder if the dye they used to color the cone was some of that vegetable-based stuff that stinks when it goes bad, but still performs well as a dye???? But, this thing is 50+ years old, so you'd think the smell should have disapated by now. : :JS : ::Did a cat or rodent pee on the speaker? You wouldn't notice that much, other than the smell. :: ::Thomas :: :::Hi, ::: :::I've been restoring a Firestone 4-A-124, and there's a foul odor (not sound!) coming from the speaker. There's no evidence of rodent damage in the chassis, so I don't know what's gotten into the cone that created the smell. Does anyone out there know what might cause this, and...is it safe to spray it Febreeze or something to kill the smell???? ::: :::Thanks for your help! :::Jeff S. I have had good luck with "airomatic" radios by using a combination of a good spray of Lysol followed by allowing to completely dry in the Sunshine. |
